M. D. AHUJA LIBRARY

The popular saying "Small Is Beautiful" holds true to our library. The M. D. Ahuja Library as it is popularly known, came into existence in the year 1997 with the establishment of its parent institution i.e. Hashu Advani College of Special Education.

Its Special Collections of books and non-book materials have been built up since its inception. The Library has adopted the policy to add a good number of books to its collection every year. In addition to the purchases the Library has received some rare books in the form of donations by eminent personalities of Mumbai City. 

The Library is the specialized one and its collection varies from simple printed book to the sophisticated Audio Visual kit. The Library has subscribed to a good number of National and International Journals in the field of Special Education. It is also getting News Letters from the Institutions and Organizations working for the similar cause.

The Library has got the Computer Facility with high speed Internet connection. The Students and Staff can access the Web for the academic work without paying any extra charges. Our users have an access to nearly about 25 Electronic Journals in the field of education, which are freely available on the net.

The Library has a close association with other outstanding Libraries in and around the Mumbai City. Among them, the names British Council Library and AYJNIHH Library are worth a mention here.

One third of the members shall form a quorum, the ,duties and functions of the Library Committee shall be

  • To frame general rules for the management of the Library.
  • To advise the Librarian regarding general library development.
  • To arrange for the stock taking of the library.
  • To prepare and submit an Annual Report summarizing the activities and achievements of the library.
  • To perform such other duties as may be assigned to it by the Principal.
  • To guide and supervise external members activities.
  • Reviews the performance of the libraries in supporting and assisting scholarly activities.
  • Monitors technical developments (such as automation or computerization) for the libraries.
  • Gives advice on the allocation of resources among major library units and services.
  • To prepare recommendation policy and ensure its implementation.
  • To prepare collection development policy and ensure its implementation.

Library Timings

The Library is kept open on all the Week Days from 09:00 A.M to 04:00 P.M. It remains closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.

General Services

Document Delivery Service (DDS)


DDS is one of the important services provided by our library. The Students, Staff and the Research Scholars can request for any kind of information available in the library.

Reference Service


In case the desired information is not available to the users in our library, we guide such users to a particular library from where they can get it. Fortunately in the city of Mumbai, we have excellent libraries supporting the needs of researchers such as AYJNIHH. We have a very good network of librarians through whom we try to satisfy the information needs of our users.

Referral Service


In case the desired information is not available to the users in our library, we guide such users to a particular library from where they can get it. Fortunately in the city of Mumbai, we have excellent libraries supporting the needs of researchers such as AYJNIHH, TISS, British Library etc. We have a very good network of librarians through whom we try to satisfy the information needs of our users. The availability Web OPACs of the above-mentioned libraries has made our task easy.

Information Display and Notification


This is also one of the important services given by our library. We display the important news items on our library notice boards. This service keeps the library users informed about the recent happenings in and around the country. We display the Book Jackets of newly arrived books on the library notice board.

User Orientation Service


We provide orientation service to the new students in order to make them familiarize with the functioning of the library. We Orient them on how to use the library Catalogue, the arrangement of books on the racks, different services and facilities available in the library etc.

Internet and Digital Information Access Facility


We have an Internet Browsing Section inside the library. O3 PCs having a high speed Internet Connection are made available in this Section. The students and Staff are taking a great benefit of this facility. They use this facility for searching information, sending and receiving e-mails and for accessing the free online journals.

Scanning and Printing Service


We do provide the scanning and printing service to our library users. We have a Canon Scanner inside the library through which we provide the scanning service at free of cost. We also have a Colour Inkjet Printer, which we use to offer the Printing Service at a nominal fee.

Extension of Library Membership


Our library membership is extended to the former students of the college, the ex- staff and even to the faculties of other colleges. For that matter any one can enter the library for using information in the premises with proper vigilance and permission of the librarian.

Library Rules

  • Library remains open from 9.00 A.M to 4:00 P.M. throughout the year.
  • Library observes holidays on 1st and 3rd Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
  • Only the registered members can use the library facilities.
  • Students can borrow two books at a time from the library for a period one-week while the staff members can retain the books for a period of one month.
  • The staff members of R.T.T. School and the Ex students of our college can avail the library facility by depositing a refundable amount of Rs. 500/-. They can borrow one book at a time for a period of 15 days.
  • Students belonging to SC / ST categories can barrow one additional book from the SC / ST Book Bank Scheme collection.
  • The books borrowed from the library, should be returned on or before the last date stamped on the due date slip. A fine of Rs. 1/- will be charged for each day the book is kept overtime.
  • Library Borrower’s Card is not transferable.
  • Every user who enters the library premises has to sign on the Visitor’s Register kept for the purpose.
  • Smoking, eating and drinking are not allowed in the library premises.
  • Members should maintain silence in the reading hall of the library.
  • Members are responsible for any damage caused by them to the books or any other property belonging to the library and shall be required to pay the penalty imposed upon them by the Librarian.
  • The members caught tearing pages / stealing of books will be suspended forthwith from using the library facilities and further the college will initiate a disciplinary action against them.
  • The Librarian reserves the right to recommend the suspension of Library Membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff and behaving in an indecent manner.
  • Upon any infringement of the library rules members shall forfeit the privileges of admission and membership of the library.
